Autonomic nervous system - The autonomic nervous system is the part of the nervous system of the higher life forms that is not consciously controlled. It is commonly divided into two usually antagonistic subsystems: the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system.
Sympathetic nervous system - The sympathetic nervous system (SNS) is one-half of the autonomic nervous system; the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) is the other.
Enteric nervous system - The enteric nervous system (ENS) is an interdependent part of the autonomic nervous system. Despite its many interactions with other parts of the ANS, it can be regarded as a nerval body of its own.
Parasympathetic nervous system - The parasympathetic nervous system is one of two divisions of the autonomic nervous system. It conserves energy as it slows the heart rate, increases intestinal and gland activity, and relaxes sphincter muscles in the gastro-intestinal tract.
